Ted A. Meyers - Attorney

Look around attorney Ted A. Meyers’ office and you’ll see why the legal profession means so much to him.  On one wall you’ll see the faces of Meyers’ great uncle, grandfather, uncle and father, all of whom were attorneys in Kane County. Being fourth-generation is something Meyers says is great, especially in how it offers a perspective on how he performs his job.

“I followed my dad around a lot and went to court with him at a young age. I saw the professionalism. It was never about making money, it was about helping people,” Meyers explains. “There’s a business aspect to it, but the reality is you take care of people, you take care of their problems.”

Meyers partnered with Robert M. Foote to create the firm in 2000. He earned an undergraduate degree from Notre Dame in 1982 and his law degree from Southern Illinois University in 1986, the same year he was admitted to the Illinois Bar.

With a general focus on business transactions, estate planning, and real estate, Meyers describes himself as the legal equivalent of  the family doctor.   As a trusted advisor to many families and businesses, Meyers’ main focus is to advise clients to take steps to treat and resolve legal ailments before they require surgery.

In addition to working with his long-term clients, another key aspect of Meyers’ practice is assisting the firm’s litigation practice and advising families who are awarded financial settlements.

“Representing an injured client or a family that has lost a loved one does not end after a large verdict or settlement is secured.  A personal injury or wrongful death lawsuit is not a game, nor is it a lottery that anyone would want to win.  Monies recovered compensate personal tragedy and loss, and often our client’s face a lifetime of medical care.    In such cases, numerous tax and guardianship issues need to be addressed and often long-term care plans need to be properly budgeted“.

Meyers is proud of the firm’s policy of assisting injured families with guardianship issues at no additional cost after settlements have been awarded and fees have been paid.  Meyers recalls sage advice he received from his father:  “Being a successful lawyer and doing the right thing for your clients are not mutually exclusive--but are in fact mutually inclusive”.   Asked why Foote-Meyers has been so successful over the years, Meyers attributes it to having great clients and working with a great team that share his passion for  justice.

Outside of his membership with the Kane County and Illinois State Bar associations, Meyers works with the Mary Gardner Foundation, which supports the McHenry County Youth Orchestra and Camp Algonquin.
