Matthew J. Herman - Attorney

Matt Herman joined Foote-Meyers as an associate attorney in 2008, working closely with partner Robert M. Foote on class-action investigations and cases.

Herman, born in New Jersey in 1970, graduated cum laude from John Marshall Law School in 1996 after earning his undergraduate degree from the University of Delaware in 1992. He gravitated toward the law, in part, because of his competitive spirit.

“I like the challenges of every case, whether you have the upper hand with the facts or not. It’s becomes my job to prove to the trier of fact the merit of our position and that we should prevail.”

Herman spent the early part of his career working on a wide variety of civil cases, from personal injury to commercial law, but finds interesting the complexities of larger class claims because they aim to fix a problem impacting many people.

“We’re trying to keep the companies fair and honest in terms of what they do with consumers,” he said of class claims. “It’s something I enjoy pursuing.”

Herman is admitted to practice in Illinois and U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, but is eligible to serve in class claim in other states on a pro-hoc basis.

He is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, American Bar Association, the Kane County Bar Association and the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association.
